The purpose of the Tree Replacement Project is to provide locally grown, native trees for residents who lost trees in the tornado of March 31, 2023. Central Arkansas Master Naturalists will provide native trees, sourced and grown locally, and include education on trees and tree care to help ensure growth to healthy maturity. We have already started preparing saplings on local properties for transplant, by root-pruning and inventorying trees available. Planting native trees supports native insects that in turn support native birds.
CAMN was founded in 2006. Our mission is to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. We are a 501C3 charitable organization of volunteers and will not be charging for trees or planting assistance. We are not a nursery growing trees as a business.
Our trees will be usually 2 to 3 feet tall at planting and like any new tree will need TLC to grow to maturity. At homes without irrigation systems, we will supply a gator bag for watering.
We are available to speak to neighborhood group meetings about the project and answer questions.
We encourage groups to organize planting parties, where we can bring a group of trees to a street or neighborhood to be planted in one day along with educating people about tree care, showing them how to use gator bags for watering, how to use mulch properly to keep the ground moist but the tree trunk clean and dry. Ideal planting times in this area are late October into December and January through March.
Feel free to re-print and pass on the flyers about the project and the application from the links below.
