For those who would like to know more about our local feathered friends, "Introduction to Birding" is a good place to begin. Traveling to exotic destinations isn‘t the only way to watch interesting animals. There are many fascinating wildlife experiences that can happen close to home. This class will provide a sampling of facts and photos to show some of the many bird species that may be in Arkansas. We will provide a glimpse of those possibilities in a very condensed presentation. Useful apps and equipment relative to birding will also be discussed. A walk & talk will also be available if the weather permits. Our class will be taught by Master Naturalist (emphasis on Master) Belinda Jonak. We will meet at 1st Presbyterian Church at 9 am, on Saturday, March 9th. You will want to wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring some water, and perhaps a pair of binoculars should we get the chance to stroll down Whittington Ave. This class will earn you 3 hours of NIT training or continuing education. Remember to log you hours and milage.

Our own Terry Thomason will be leading a Stream Team training event at the Middle Forks Barrens. Any members that have not participated in a Stream Team event are encouraged to attend. We have several opportunities during the year to use this training on both the Middle Fork of the Saline River and the Caddo River. The Stream Team program is part of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission‘s efforts to monitor the water quality of Arkansas‘s streams and rivers. This will give you an opportunity to visit the Middle Fork Barrens and have a chance to play in the middle fork of the Saline River. Terry recommends that you bring water shoes or wading boots, sun protection, a sack lunch, and water. The event is weather dependent, so watch the weather reports and check your emails. We will meet at 9am at the parking lot of the Dollar General on Hwy 5 North and can carpool from there. There is a map link on our website that will give you accurate directions to the Middle Fork Barrens site. This will earn you 6 hours of NIT training or continuing ed hours. Don‘t forget to log your time and milage.
