What is this?
The botanists at Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission in Little Rock, University of Arkansas at Monticello, Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and Hendrix College in Conway have combined and coordinated their efforts to offer an outstanding educational opportunity on October 17-19. (see details below). The purpose of these "Notes From Nature transcription events" is to motivate, mobilize and educate citizen scientists all over Arkansas to participate in an effort to digitize information contained on herbarium specimen labels that would otherwise be locked behind the herbarium cabinet doors for decades. Once you learn how to transcribe the data by attending any one of these events, you can volunteer to do transcriptions at your convenience from any computer any time! This is a great way to spend time earning volunteer hours during seasons that are not so conducive to working outdoors while providing sorely needed humanpower to free this essential data to solve urgent threats facing our native plants. These events qualify for Continuing Education credits by Central Arkansas Master Naturalists. There are four events scheduled for mid-October during the international WeDigBio transcription blitz at the following locations (and their facebook event pages): 4. Saturday, October 19 in Little Rock at the Division of Arkansas Heritage, 1100 North Street, Arkansas Heritage Diamond Conference Room from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm (limited computers available - please bring a laptop if you have one available!) https://www.facebook.com/events/920178818364189/ Approved for 3 hours CE.
