NCAMN Hike Stair Bluff

Customary New Year's Day hike ... exhilarating view above the White River. Bring lunch & beverage. We'll repeat our climb up Turkey Mountain (aka Stair Bluff), high above the White River across from Buffalo City, by the landmark cross atop the bluff, best view in Baxter County, 680’ above the White River.
Challenging length and elevation, 6 miles round trip with three climbs. Hike starts with moderate 200’ ascent of a ridge, a brisk morning warmup, then descend and follow Cook Creek to the foot of Turkey Mountain. The 469’ ascent 1/2 mile up Turkey Mountain is steep (18% grade), but doable if you take your time, the climb is worth it. We rest & eat, then descend back to Cook Hollow and retrace our steps up the creek. We crest the 200’ ridge once again returning to the vehicles.
You can peruse map & photos on AllTrails.com.
